  • Children in Need - Friday 19th November 2021

    Fri 12 Nov 2021

Friday 19th November is Children in Need day and once again we are supporting the cause by having a non-uniform day. The children can wear whatever they like but they may like to show their support for Pudsey by including a spotty theme in their outfit. Please donate by following this Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/weeke-primary-school-children-in-need

We will also be raising more money for Children in Need by selling some merchandise straight after school on Thursday, outside the school office, including wristbands, pin badges and Pudsey ears. Prices will range from £1 to £2.50. If you would like to buy something in this sale, bring change as we will not have any. There will be limited stock; when it’s gone, it’s gone!

We have been made aware that the street and zebra crossing lights on Stoney Lane were not working at dusk yesterday evening. Please be extra careful when collecting your son/daughter from 16:30 on-wards, especially near the crossing until this is resolved.

This has been reported to the council.

Linked to their forces topic, year 5 went on a school trip to Paultons Park on Monday. Safe to say they had lots of fun and had an opportunity to feel some forces!

  • Year 4 - Anglo Saxon Activities

    Wed 20 Oct 2021 Year 4

To further our understanding of life as an Anglo Saxon, we made our own settlements out of Weetabix, card and straw! We then assumed a character, taking their Anglo Saxon name, before finding out their role in the community. This helped to bring our writing alive when we wrote character descriptions.

The Year 4 visit to the Great Hall and City Museum was a great way to further enhance both our historical enquiry skills as well as giving us a greater understanding of Anglo Saxon life. The children sequenced a number of historical periods into a timeline, made their own human ‘Round Table’, giving them an appreciation of its size, and then acted out The Sword InThe Stone story whilst dressed in Anglo Saxon clothing.

In science, we have been learning about the digestive process and using lego, snacks, tights, plastic bags and orange juice to create the digestive system from the teeth to the anus! The children were thoroughly engaged and squealed with delight as the lesson progressed!

  • Year 2 - Numbots

    Thu 23 Sep 2021 Year 2

We have some very exciting news to announce…we have signed up to Numbots for all children in Year 2. This is the sister program of Times Tables Rock Stars (some of you may be familiar with this if you have older siblings in the school). You can play by signing on through the internet or you can download the Numbots app.

Over the next day or two you will receive an email with your child’s username and password to be able to access Numbots. Below is some information about the program.

    How The Game Works:

There are two play modes in NumBots that serve different purposes.

    1. Story Mode for Understanding

In Story Mode, the emphasis is on mathematical concepts and is underpinned by a mastery approach to teaching. Story Mode features visual representations, procedural variation, exposure to different calculation strategies and interleaved material all in very carefully sequenced order.

    Unlocking Levels

Story Mode is set out as a series of Stages (Rust, Tin, Iron, etc) containing levels, a bit like Angry Birds. Rust is the first Stage and level 1 is unlocked, so this is the place for everyone to start. To unlock the next level, players need to earn two stars by showing sufficient proficiency. The levels in Story Mode follow a natural mathematical progression and move the pupil through the game automatically, which means you don’t have to set anything!

    1. Challenge Mode for Recall

In Challenge Mode, the emphasis is on rapid responses to essential facts and simple sums, against the clock.

    Unlocking Challenges

Challenge Mode is locked for new users and is unlocked once players reach a certain level on Story Mode. It’s currently set to unlock part way through Tin stage. There are 20 Challenge levels and only the first is unlocked to begin with. To unlock the next Challenge, players must correctly answer 12 questions in a minute.

    Get In The Habit

Our aim is for children to play in Story Mode for three minutes, four to five times a week, to get the best out of NumBots. Little and often is key (spaced practice is more effective than blocked practice). We hope that your child will find the program a fun way to practise maths skills as well as improving fluency.
